Senior Technician, Iselin

The incumbent will perform sample preparations in the area of heterogeneous catalysis and material science. The incumbent is expected to make catalyst samples according to the designed procedures and catalyst formulations, provide suggestions in improving catalyst preparation process, and solve reoccurring problems during catalyst preparation.


  • Working under close supervision, performs catalyst preparation through routine and non-routine methods according to written procedures and verbal instructions.
  • Careful labeling of catalyst samples throughout the preparation steps and documentation of results.
  • Compile experimental results and report to the project leader following rigorous record keeping practices. Recognize when results are not meeting expectations and advise supervisor.
  • Coordinate daily activities with supervisor and other team members
  • Document any change or adjustments in task priorities, laboratory equipment, and/or raw materials.
  • Capable of resolving minor problems/troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
  • Independently operate and maintain analytical instruments & equipment.

  • BS in Chemistry/Material Science/Chemical Engineering with no experience, OR Associates degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a laboratory environment, OR a high school education with 5 years of laboratory experience.
  • Basic chemistry knowledge (periodic table, pH, moles, acid, base, concentration, etc)
  • Math skills in chemical batch calculation
  • Hands-on knowledge of preparation and coating of slurries is a strong plus
  • Understanding of quality standards and translation of these standards to preparation of new concepts
  • Strong focus and exposure to safety protocols in the laboratory
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced technical environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
