Senior Technician, Iselin

The incumbent in this position will support the pilot plant functions required by the R&D community that will help them achieve success in their respective program objectives. The primary focus for the position will be to support the catalyst refining group by producing samples from 5-120 Kg for performance evaluation. This person will assist the Research Specialist with all the tasks associated with catalyst production. This will include handling of raw materials and waste disposal, catalyst synthesis, and work-up, and record keeping. Training and operating analytical and physical test equipment required during production. Other duties will include training and assisting in the general pilot plant area as well.

Operating under minimal supervision, the Senior Technician will:

  • Operate pilot equipment as required to prepare catalytic cracking catalysts.
  • Assist FCC pilot plant research specialist as required to complete duties associated with producing lab and pilot scale samples including raw materials and disposal.
  • Analyze samples in progress for required chemical and physical properties.
  • Maintain excellent data and observation records in electronic lab notebook.
  • Communicate results and observations to Research Specialist, pilot plant supervisor, or appropriate project leaders.
  • Assist in general pilot plant as needed.

  • BS in Chemistry/Material Science/Chemical Engineering with no experience, OR Associates degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a laboratory environment, OR a high school education with 5 years of laboratory experience.
  • Pilot plant experience is highly desired, including stirred tank reactors, calcination equipment, and handling of hazardous materials.
  • The person will have working knowledge of lab testing and analysis techniques. Some related experience in materials science and/or chemistry is desired.
  • Must possess excellent data collection, observation and documentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communications and organizational skills required.
