Summary
The Senior Manager, Accounting will be a key member of the Wyndham Hotel Group (WHG) Accounting department. The Senior Manager, Accounting will provide ongoing technical accounting guidance for transactions impacting WHG. This position will research and conclude on technical accounting matters and will document conclusions in formal accounting position papers, ensuring the proper treatment of transactions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Technical accounting responsibilities will include accounting and due diligence support on potential acquisitions, post-acquisition accounting and integration support, ongoing impairment reviews of intangible assets and other significant balance sheet items, and implementation of new accounting pronouncements. This role will be heavily involved in WHG's implementation of the new revenue recognition standard, documentation and implementation of new accounting policies and processes to meet the new standard and related disclosures.

The Senior Manager, Accounting will participate in the monthly close process including monthly balance sheet reviews, quarterly reporting packages, and drafting ongoing accounting memos (accounts receivable, development advance notes, impairment assessments, etc.). Manage all requests relating to internal and external audits. Serve as the main WHG point of contact for the Deloitte audit team. Work closely with external auditors throughout the year on quarterly/annual financial and SOX reviews/ audits to ensure all requests are submitted timely and all deadlines are met.

The Senior Manager, Accounting will participate in WHG's external reporting efforts in supporting the quarterly 10Q, annual 10K, press releases, earnings call scripts, and franchise disclosure documents.

This role will also review all significant contracts (i.e., vendor, non-standard franchise agreements, etc) to ensure they are properly accounted for.

Responsibilities

Provide ongoing technical accounting guidance for transactions and issues impacting WHG. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Research and conclude on technical accounting matters and document conclusions in formal accounting position papers
  • Annual / ongoing asset impairment reviews
  • Accounting and due diligence support on all acquisitions
  • Post-acquisition accounting and integration support
  • Development of business unit specific accounting policies
  • Assist in the implementation of new accounting pronouncements
  • Annual GAAP checklist.
Perform the monthly ledger closing process to ensure the timely reporting of accurate financial information. Responsibilities will include:

  • preparing, recording and reviewing journal entries,
  • performing variance analysis,
  • reviewing/ preparing account reconciliations,
  • assisting with annual year-end tax packages
  • reviewing quarterly/annual Corporate reporting packages and requests
  • supporting internal controls
  • reviewing/ preparing quarterly/annual Corporate reporting packages and requests
  • Reviewing/ preparing annual tax packages

Participate in WHG's external reporting efforts in supporting the quarterly 10Q, annual 10K, press releases, earnings call scripts, and franchise disclosure documents.

Assist with financial projects and initiatives throughout the year. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting data and processes and work cross functionally to design and implement changes.

Qualifications

Abilities/Key Competencies/Skills
1) Experience with technical accounting research and preparation of accounting position papers.

2) Strong analytical and critical thinking, including analysis, judgment, problem-solving, and decision making

3) Strong knowledge of practices and concepts associated with GAAP

4) Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization and external contacts

5) Strong collaborative skills and ability to work in a dynamic team based environment

6) Detail oriented, self-motivated and able to work collaboratively on cross functional teams in a dynamic team based environment

7) Strong PC skills, including Excel, Oracle and Hyperion (HFM)

8) Innovative team player that tests assumptions and challenges current processes.
Experience/Certificates/Education
1) Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

2) 5-8 plus years of progressive accounting experience
3) Public accounting experience required (Big 4 / large regional accounting firms). Combination of public and private accounting experience a plus
4) CPA required
