POSITION SUMMARY:

TIAA's Corporate Controller group is looking for a Senior Investment Accountant for the Global Financial Services team. The Real Estate team is responsible for regulatory and analytical reporting for the Company's direct commercial real estate portfolio. The primary function of this position is to provide oversight of the international asset portfolio, working closely with associates at TH Real Estate in Europe and Singapore.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Coordinates audits of financial statements for international real estate subsidiaries.
  • Assists in asset acquisitions and other complex real estate transactions.
  • Monthly review of information received from TH Real Estate and other third party accounting firms to ensure understanding of results and future plans for the assets.
  • Assists with development of budgets and analysis on variances to budgets.
  • Assists reporting team with internal and external reporting requirements, including projections, and ad hoc queries from Asset Management and other teams in F&A.
  • Researches, interprets and documents technical accounting issues and development of company policy on GAAP/IFRS and FASB/IASB standards.

Impact:

This role directly affects the GA Real Estate team in the Global Financial Services area and potentially the larger Controller Group and F&A.

Problem Solving:

Strong accounting and technical skills are needed to perform the required tasks, as well as an understanding of the legal structures established to hold the assets.

Functional Knowledge:

Knowledge of Yardi is important, as is a general knowledge of the legal entity structures used to hold assets. An advanced understanding of accounting and how results should flow up the organizational chain is also important.

Business or Industry Expertise:

Limited knowledge of TIAA's business and industry is needed. Knowledge of the commercial real estate industry would be beneficial.

Interactions / Interpersonal Skills:

Interpersonal skills are critical in this role. The ideal candidate must be able to build relationships not only within the department, but with other business partners as well. This position requires constant interaction with the rest of the GA Real Estate team, various F&A teams, and other areas within Nuveen.

QUALIFICATIONS:


Required

  • 7+ years of accounting work experience in the real estate or investment accounting field.
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of financial statements preparation for real estate
  • Knowledge of Yardi is preferred.
