Senior Investigator

Senior Investigator Description:The Senior Investigator supports the Global Security organization by conducting both internal and external investigations surrounding Monsanto employees and property as well as supporting Monsanto’s Insider Threat program. The Senior Investigator reports to the Investigations Supervisor of Global Security Investigations. This position is located at the Monsanto world headquarters in St. Louis. The Senior Investigator is responsible for collecting information from both public and private sources, liaising with law enforcement and other government agencies, planning investigative operations, developing strategies, and conducting surveillance. Primary Responsibilities:The Senior Investigator’s primary responsibilities are as follows:
This position reports to the Investigations Supervisor and may serve as the acting supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Conducts investigations of alleged or suspected violations of laws and regulations concerning criminal matters associated with fraud, computer crimes, intellectual property and other security issues.
  • Develops investigative strategy, interviews personnel, vendors, and suspects, documents investigations with evidence so criminal and/or civil procedures are facilitated.
  • Works closely with multiple business units on the development of risk based mitigation and response strategies pertaining to intellectual property protection, insider threats programs and corporate espionage.
  • Participates in the investigation of suspected complex and sophisticated criminal activities, which may have significant impact on health, safety, fiscal, ethical and operations integrity.
  • Conducts surveillance operations by determining appropriate places, persons or activities to be observed, as well as the time required and assets needed to do so.
  • Works within the investigative team to establish links between suspects and other violators by piecing together evidence uncovered from a variety of sources.
  • Proactively addresses workplace violence prevention and intervention issues.
  • Interacts with the organization’s Law and Human Resource departments as well as local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in order to achieve maximum results that support business efforts.
  • Conducts investigations at the direction of the Business Conduct Office.
  • Prepares clear, comprehensive and cohesive investigative reports based on established procedures.
  • Provides guidance to less experienced investigators.

Required Skills:
  • English fluency
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
  • Appropriate college degrees include Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, or Human Resources. Other degrees may be considered if the knowledge gained will address the need for specific skill sets.
    • 5+ years experience in conducting or managing complex criminal and civil investigations.
    • Thorough understanding of internet based investigations.
  • Familiarity with current open source collection and analysis tools to include social media analysis tools.
    • Specialized training and experience covering one or more of the following types of issues is desired: insider threat and counterintelligence/corporate espionage.
    • Demonstrated experience in conducting victim, witness and suspect interviews
    • Ability to prepare clear and succinct written communications
    • Demonstrated ability to lead people
    • Experience in conflict resolution, workplace violence, negotiations, threat analysis and developing risk analysis of human behavior
    • Ability to work under pressure in stressful, high profile, sensitive and life threatening situations
    • Ability to handle the task of: physical arrests, physical protection and protection response.
    • Understanding of physical asset protection
    • Successful completion of a post offer physical fitness test / drug screen is required for employment in this position.
    • Must be eligible to obtain a Private Security License through the St. Louis County Police Department
Preferred Skills:
    • Graduate Level degree preferred
    • Background in investigations, specialized unit, physical asset security, or executive protection
    • Completion of certified interview or investigations training courses.
    • Experience in budgeting, forecasting and managing cost center expenditures
    • Experience in counter-intelligence / insider threat / corporate espionage investigations.
    • Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) or similar certification
    • Fluency in one or more languages other than English
    • Link or data analysis proficiency
    • International travel experience
