Senior-Inventive Scientist- SDN Optimization

The Optimization, Reliability and Customer Analytics (ORCA) department within AT&T Research creates and delivers original solutions to some of our Company’s and industry’s most compelling and urgent challenges, ranging from network optimization and reliability, to predictive analytics and modeling, Big Data insights, and agile development and analytics solutions prototyping. We are responsible for optimization as well as development of platform elements for AT&T’s Network Cloud that uses Network Function Virtualization (NFV), and Software Defined Networking (SDN), to intelligently scale AT&T’s network, enable rapid deployment of advanced cutting-edge features and services, and provide industry leading security, performance and reliability.We are looking to expand our research and development staff in SDN Optimization. The position is focused on optimization for traffic management and network resource utilization in SDN-enabled networks. Example tasks may include quantification of SDN network benefits, network topology designs and evaluation, scalable controller algorithms for traffic engineering and capacity management in an SDN and multi-layer environment, and recommendations for placement of SDN controllers for cost-effective and reliable service.Desired Areas of Expertise: •             Candidate must have strong background in IP network technologies and traffic routing, mathematical optimization, performance, reliability, and capacity analysis.•             Strong verbal communication along with excellent technical documentation and presentation skills.•             Strong collaboration skills and working across diverse teams to implement solutions •             Ability to create innovative solutions and strategic thinking.•             Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Required Qualifications: ·A Ph.D. in a relevant field from an accredited university or a Master’s of Science degree with 3 or more years of technical experience also in the relevant areas will also be considered to meet job standards. ·Degrees such as Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Distributed Computing, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Statistics from an accredited university. Desired Qualifications:·Applied telecommunications research experience is a plus, including knowledge of IP networking and services. ·Knowledge of SDN, NFV, Cloud and Distributed Computing optimization is highly desirable
