Public Relations Specialist


Cox Automotive is seeking a Public Relations Specialist to join their team in Lake Success, NY.


Cox Automotive Retail Solutions Group, which includes Dealertrack, VinSolutions, vAuto, HomeNet and Xtime brands, is seeking an energetic public relations professional to help support the public relations team.  The Public Relations Specialist will report to the Director of Public Relations for the Retail Solutions Group and help support the Retail Solutions Group brands among external constituents.

The ideal candidate will have solid writing and editing skills along with experience working with management teams, along with executing integrated communications plans. Attention to detail, creative thinking and the ability to multi-task is crucial. The position requires the ability to self-direct and have a passion for storytelling to the media to help build brand awareness.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide support to the Retail Solutions Public Relations Director and PR agency as needed
  • Draft press releases, talking points, etc.
  • Monitor for clips and maintain media lists
  • Contribute, as needed, to the development of an annual integrated communications plan
  • Assist in sharing PR results with internal communications
  • Help contribute to strategic pitch story ideas for the media and land placement in local, trade and business media outlets
  • Generate new media outlets contacts
  • Ability to collaborate with internal team members and agency resources
  • Help review thought leadership materials which could include tracking down data to create trend stories


  • 4-6 years of experience in a public relations or corporate communications role preferred
  • Excellent and creative writing skills
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and AP Style
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills
  • Self-starter, organized, effective with time management and detail-oriented; Ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Knowledge of emerging public relations technologies
  • Knowledge of Social Media (basic understanding) 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Automotive or third-party experience a plus
  • BA/BS in Communications, Public Relations, English or Journalism
