Production Planner

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:
Under limited supervision provides production planning/scheduling, inventory management, or distribution support to maintain production operations and customer product availability.

Major Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Analyze planning requirements and initiate appropriate action to support the master schedule or independent demands.

Schedule Manufacturing Operation to ensure availability of items under planners control with minimum negative impact on manufacturing.

Plan manufacturing schedules to efficiently utilize facilities.Ensure finished goods and work-in-process availability.  

Forecast requirements and schedule production to meet these requirements. 

Perform system maintenance and updates to insure database integrity for planning fields and files.

Utilize personal computer tools to perform analysis and provide recommendations to management.

Maintain raw material and work in process inventories in accordance with pre-determined inventory levels and targets.  

Monitor inventories  and take action as appropriate.

Recommend procurement strategies for internal and external supplies compatible with economic, supply and quality goals; understand raw materials needs and translate these needs into inventory plans and strategies.

Manage material flow from external and internal suppliers through manufacturing channels to achieve maximum production efficiency, minimizing waste and impacts to customers. 

Understands and applies manufacturing systems, interpolates manufacturing requirements.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Education:
Bachelors Degree: BA or BS  preferred and 1-2 years operations/distribution experience, or directly relevant technical experience sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge typically associated with the degree and experience requirement. 

Background:

Previous operations experience and exposure to manufacturing materials principles and concepts preferred.

Accountablility / Scope:
Describe the primary accountabilities of the position and the impact of actions.
Accountable for the accuracy and the impact of planning decisions. Can commit inventory dollars for items under their control.  MRR Level one sign off authority: manufacturing documentation sign off authority, i.e., change requests, PBOM's and material specifications.Operates with close supervision.
All significant production schedule changes are reviewed either by management or a senior planner to evaluate necessity and impacts on the  schedules.Approval of release of material to the production facility is not required, WlP & FG inventory is closely monitored by management .
