Charter Communications currently seeks a Network Engineer II for our Commercial Network Design – Order Integrity team. Please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.
Provide liaison with boundary partners such as Customers, Sales, Sales Support, Market Development, Order Management, Sales Engineering, Project Management, OSP Design, Construction, CND Circuit Design, CNO, and Tech Ops on the engineering requirements and needs of product lifecycles.
Manage creation of reports and dashboards in SalesForce as needed and provide data analysis.
Assist in training and supporting network engineers on the team.
Assist in managing team workflow to ensure service level objectives are met.
Maintain the sites objects, network equipment, network and service path designs in Telcordia Granite Inventory to a 90 - 95% accuracy rating. Ensures the Granite data conforms to the corporate standards.
Manage small and large scale projects to ensure deliverables are met on-time.
Interface with other organizations and personnel within Charter Communications including: equipment architecture, equipment installation, fiber design and construction, operational support, planning and corporate compliance.
Assist in investigating issues holding up the flow of an order, and provide support to boundary partners in order to improve service delivery.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, in order to facilitate service delivery with a diverse number of boundary partners.
Demonstrates working knowledge of IP network operations and architectures, including BGP.
Ability to understand complex technical documentation, processes and problem resolution.
Experienced in documenting and designing circuits end to end in OSS tools such as Granite Inventory.
Experienced in Telcordia naming definitions for sites, equipment and circuits.
Fully understands SONET and Standard telephony hierarchy DS0 – OC768.
Layer2 experience and knowledge in VLANs and circuit emulation.
Understanding of optical transmission technologies including SONET, DWDM, CWDM, and xPON services.
Understanding physical and logical cross-connects as it relates to network design and traffic management.
Understanding of TWC products including Ethernet EPL, EVPL, EPLAN, Ethernet over DOCSIS, Carrier Ethernet, CTBH, DIA, BGP DIA, Dark Fiber, PRI, SIP, Managed Services IP, and Managed Services Video.
Thorough understanding of metro Ethernet transport protocols such as MPLS, VPLS, RPR, and related network protocols.
Has the ability to perform data analysis and reconciliation with OSS reports and SalesForce reports in order to support the team using Excel.
Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of professional principles, practices, and procedures to solve a variety of moderately complex issues.
Works with minimal supervision but confers with superiors on unusual matters: has appreciated latitude for un-reviewed actions or decisions.
Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity.
Develops many internal and some external contacts.
Senior staff specialist, Expert in IP Routing (L3), Switching (L2) and Optical Transport (L1) particularly as applies to TWC IP Networks.
Possesses and applies comprehensive, full-technical knowledge of particular field of specialization to the completion of significant, ambiguous and/or complex assignments.
Has well-developed leadership qualities.
Leads or directly supports projects, and/or serve as advisor to Network Engineers.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related Discipline; or equivalent experience and education.
4 years Layer 2 & 3 IP network engineering work experience
1 year Optical Transport/Layer 1 network engineering experience preferred
CCNA or equivalent network certification preferred.
