Network Engineer III, Complex Design

Spectrum Enterprise currently seeks a Network Engineer III, Complex Design for our Commercial Engineering Network Design group. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.

Position Summary:
The Network Design Engineer III position will be responsible for the design of Commercial and Carrier Networks for all markets within the Spectrum Enterprise organization.

Essential Job Functions:

Job Requirements:
  • 3-5 year exp in Network Engineering Ops and/or Design
  • Working experience with Telcordia Granite inventory and circuit database preferred. Or, experience with a telecommunications/networking asset management and circuit inventory tool.
  • Experienced in documenting and designing circuits end to end in Granite or comparable tool
  • Experienced in creating high level designs, low level designs, and/or implementing network augments using such records.
  • Experienced in submitting Space and Power requests.
  • Understanding of current, voltage, resistance, power and thermal requirements.
  • Understanding of the layout and physical characteristics of data centers and large installations of networking assets.
  • Experienced in creating a bill of materials and requisitioning equipment.
  • Experienced in using IP control, IPMT and/or a similar IP address management tool.
  • Experienced in Telcordia naming definitions for sites, equipment and circuits.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of IP network operations and architectures. Ability to understand complex technical documentation, processes and problem resolution.
  • Participate in network implementation and/or upgrade projects.
  • Fully understands SONET and Standard telephony hierarchy DS0 – OC768.
  • Knowledgeable of IP routing (L3), Switching (L2) and Optical Transport (L1) technologies. Some experience with IP technologies.
  • Understanding of optical transmission technologies including SONET, DWDM, CWDM, and EPON services.
  • Understanding physical and logical cross-connects as it relates to network design and traffic management.
  • Has the ability to perform data analysis and reconciliation with Excel.
  • Thorough understanding of metro Ethernet transport protocols such as MPLS, VPLS, RPR, and related network protocols and MEF compliant services.
  • Understanding of Layer 0/Layer 1 physical fiber design and construction.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prefer Cisco, Alcatel/Nokia, Juniper, RAD, and ADVA experience preferred but not required.
Industry recognized network certification is preferred by not required.

Education and Experience:
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or three months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
