Manager, Customer Risk Management, North America


The Manager, Customer Risk Management (“CRM”) is responsible for managing all customer risk related matters pertaining to his/her assigned region (North America), including defining risk exposure appetite, evaluating new customer applications and monitoring existing customers to ensure risk levels are aligned with customer-level appetite and regional and corporate objectives. The role will be located at Mastercard’s headquarters in Purchase and act as the voice of CRM amongst the regional business units.

Mastercard has approximately $40B in credit exposure to financial institutions worldwide, placing the CRM role as a key part of its evolving and quickly growing business model. The Manager will be tasked with working with the business units to be sure the risk/reward model aligns with the company’s go-to-market strategy. The position reports to the Director, North America CRM and falls within the responsibilities of the Vice President Americas Customer Risk Management within the Treasury organization.

We are currently hiring for a Manager, Customer Risk Management, but expect the candidate to grow and move within the greater Treasury and Finance organization, as the CRM role provides an excellent platform for career development. The successful candidate will be exposed to a wide range of business opportunities creating exposure to third parties, and would have subsequent opportunities to gain exposure in other areas within the Treasury/Finance team including Corporate Investments, Capital Markets, Capital and Financial Planning, Retirement Plans, Settlement, Insurance, and Special Projects.


The CRM Manger’s specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

• Manage and support thoughtful underwriting for credit exposure (legal and commercial) to customers in the region
• Lead decisions on appetite for exposure to customers based on customer credit status and achieving appropriate returns on risk exposure accepted
• Lead planning and customer negotiations on risk mitigation (e.g. type of collateral and amount) to ensure exposure is maintained within customer-level exposure appetite
• Understand regional business strategy and partner with business to assist in execution
• Partnering with other CRM regional teams to ensure 24x7 global customer risk exposure monitoring
• Act as the regional point person/liaison for all CRM related matters
• Portfolio management, including ongoing credit assessment of customers, review of new customer applications and managing various reporting and monitoring processes

All About You

Qualified candidates work experience that includes some combination of international corporate finance, accounting, treasury and risk management. A strong undergraduate degree and a CFA or an MBA from a leading business school with distinguished academic credentials are desired. Knowledge and/or experience in North American financial markets or payments is a plus. Knowledge of credit risk management is preferred, but not required. Good understanding of collateral instruments, including standby letters of credit and guarantees. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, with strong initiative and leadership skills. Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills required.
