U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company's role is to responsibly manufacture and market USSTC brands to adult tobacco consumers in a financially disciplined way, and to provide manufacturing services to PM USA and NuMark for their smokeless products. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Maintenance Business Unit Leader (Weekend Shift) to join our Maintenance department located in Nashville, TN.

The successful candidate will manage the activities of maintenance skill trade personnel to maintain equipment, systems and related issues to manufacture USSTC brands at the Nashville facility. Responsibilities include effective allocation of internal and external technical resources and equipment to meet manufacturing requirements. Lead and assist Natural Work Teams in their development to self-managed in order to fulfill business unit/department objectives that are linked to manufacturing goals and strategy through continuous process improvements. Responsible for maintaining plant equipment and facilities to manufacture products in a FDA regulated environment..

Specific accountabilities include:
  • Manage maintenance activities to achieve safety, quality, productivity, and cost goals within functional areas. Lead Natural Work Teams in understanding and translating functional or business strategies into tactical implementation plans within the business unit.
  • Manage resources and staffing levels within the business unit to address maintenance issues, work order completions and other maintenance related activities. Meet production, compliance, team, and Maintenance Excellence processes to achieve objectives and goals.
  • Manage and direct assigned maintenance skill trade personnel (Electricians, Electronic Technicians, Millwrights, and Mechanics) to meet business unit objectives in accordance with the organizations policies, mission, and values. Provide development plans to improve their technical skills, abilities and performance of employees.
  • The ability to manage salaried and hourly cross functional maintenance resources when assigned. Develops and monitors key actionable measures with team members to link business unit performance to factory/ manufacturing-wide objectives.
  • Coordinates maintenance and planned activities of business unit with manufacturing team members and support resources to meet established schedules and assure effective execution of work processes
  • Develops and shares relevant information to support and focus problem solving and process improvement efforts of Natural Work Teams in line with key measures, business goals, and strategic initiatives
  • Determine team developmental needs and implement solutions focused on problem solving, continuous improvement and decision making skills to support a sustained self managed team. Adherence to collective bargaining agreement.
  • Analyze key measures and contributing factors to identify problems/validate root causes, communicate findings, and propose options/recommendations to business unit teams.
  • Experience with fiduciary and budgeting policies/practices is required along with proficient use of numerous software applications.

Specific Skills

Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience in a technical field. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, building systems, maintenance theory and processes are required. Seven years prior maintenance experience with three years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required; Familiarity and experience in the principles of Maintenance Excellence, Quality Systems, Root Cause Analysis and ISO in a FDA regulated manufacturing operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coach and lead employees as well as consultants, vendors, suppliers, engineers, and outside contractors in a team based environment
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple and changing priorities and make technical decisions using independent judgment under time constraints with minimal supervision as required
  • Ability to draw on technical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems, identify root cause and apply logic/deductive reasoning to develop and implement lasting solutions to met production demands.
  • Strong communication, technical writing and leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead technical project teams, negotiate and build consensus for resources, technical problem solving and solutions with peers, subordinates and management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software and database applications to track performance and generate reports
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, equipment manuals, specifications and similar technical documentation. Excellent technical knowledge and equipment troubleshooting skills required.
  • Experience with fiduciary and budgeting policies/practices is required along with proficient use of numerous software applications.
  • This position will require you to work a Weekend Shift (2 Positions)(PM-1 Shift 6:00 am to 7:00 pm Sat, Sun & Mon) (Pm-2 Shift 6:00 pm to 7:00 am Fri, Sat & Sun)
