Maintenance Business Unit Leader (Weekend Shift)

Are you a weekend warrior? Then we have an opportunity for you. U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) is seeking a highly qualified Maintenance Business Unit Leader to work a weekend schedule managing the activities of personnel in our Maintenance department in Nashville, TN.

Apply your leadership skills to direct and assist the maintenance team as it maintains equipment and systems for the manufacture of products in our FDA-regulated environment.

We will rely on you to:
  • Manage maintenance activities to achieve safety, quality, productivity, and cost goals. Lead the team in understanding and acting on functional or business strategies.
  • Coordinate resources and staffing levels within the business unit to address maintenance issues, work order completions and other maintenance related activities.
  • Direct assigned maintenance skill trade personnel (Electricians, Electronic Technicians, Millwrights, and Mechanics) to meet business unit objectives in accordance with organizational policies, mission, and values. Provide development plans to improve their technical skills, abilities and performance. Assess team developmental needs and implement solutions focused on problem solving, continuous improvement and decision making skills to support a sustained self-managed team, while adhering to the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Manage salaried and hourly cross functional maintenance resources when assigned. Monitor team member activities to link business unit performance to factory/manufacturing-wide objectives.
  • Coordinate maintenance and planned activities of business unit with manufacturing team members and support resources to meet established schedules and assure effective execution of work processes.
  • Analyze key measures and contributing factors to identify problems/validate root causes, communicate findings, and propose options/recommendations to business unit teams.


Specific Skills

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need:
  • A bachelor's degree (preferred) or equivalent work experience in a technical field. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment, building systems, maintenance theory and processes. Seven years of prior maintenance experience with three years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity and experience with the principles of Maintenance Excellence, Quality Systems, Root Cause Analysis and ISO in an FDA-regulated manufacturing operation
  • Skills to effectively coach and lead employees as well as consultants, vendors, suppliers, engineers, and outside contractors in a team based environment
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple and changing priorities and make technical decisions using independent judgment under time constraints with minimal supervision
  • Ability to draw on technical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems, identify root cause and apply logic/deductive reasoning to develop and implement lasting solutions to meet production demands
  • Strong communication, technical writing and leadership skills with the ability to effectively lead technical project teams, negotiate and build consensus for resources
  • Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software and database applications
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, diagrams, equipment manuals, specifications and similar technical documentation
  • Experience with fiduciary and budgeting policies/practices, along with proficient use of numerous software applications
This position will require you to work a Weekend Shift (2 Positions)(PM-1 Shift 6:00 am to 7:00 pm Sat, Sun & Mon) (PM-2 Shift 6:00 pm to 7:00 am Fri, Sat & Sun)
