The primary responsibilities of this role, Head Study Medical Expert Women's Health, MD, are to: 

  • Manage SMEs globally within the Women’s Health TA;
    • Coach and mentor Subject Medical Experts ensuring high quality medical support for the study teams;
    • Maintain an open communication line between medical experts worldwide;
    • Set objectives and conduct Performance Reviews;
    • Identify high performers for career development pathways with Bayer;
  • Budget management for the SMEs within the TA Women’s Health;
    • Plan for the worldwide internal budget for SMEs in the TA;
    • Quarterly follow up of the budget;
    • Analyze and communicate budget needs to management;
  • Resource the development trials with Subject Medical Experts;
    • Allocate the Medical Experts to the development and/or Medical Affairs trials;
    • Identify development needs for the different regions within the TA and work towards optimization of resources;
    • Analyze and communicate resource needs to management in Development and Medical Affairs;
  • Ensure the quality of the work of the Medical Experts in the Development trials;
    • Ensure adequate and globally harmonized training in order to achieve worldwide high standards all Medical Expert tasks;
    • Help address the issue of different local medical practices for the purpose of international projects;
    • Harmonize and ensure quality of medical support in Development and Medical Affairs trials;
    • Provide high quality medical input in Development and Medical Affairs study teams;
  • Maximize client satisfaction through close collaboration with different functions;
    • Collaborate with Development and Medical Affairs TA heads and analyze and anticipate their needs;
    • Close collaboration with other SME TA heads on procedures / policies and training requirements;
    • Close collaboration with Global Clinical Leaders, Clinical Operations, Study management, Data Management, Biometry and Medical Writing;
    • Provide quality development partners for both KOLs and internal customers;
    • Be attentive to the needs of the different regions and countries;
  • Participate as a member of the SME Management team;
    • Contribute to a further development and improvement of  the function;
    • Contribute to harmonization of practices globally;
    • Contribute to the development of the individuals in SME.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.D. or equivalent medical degree required; training or experience in Women’s Health;
  • At least 5-6 years’ experience in medical science and drug development (from protocol writing to CSR);
  • In depth understanding of the drug development and commercialization process;
  • Proven leadership, motivational and interpersonal skills;
  • People management experience; budget management experience;
  • Proven ability to provide clear vision, direction and purpose in the different cultures present within the Development and Medical Affairs organization;
  • Desire and ability to teach and mentor junior level clinicians on developing and running clinical trials;
  • Strong communication skills to ensure that project plans and status are transparent, and that risks, issues and results are clear to all involved parties;
  • Ability to work within a matrix structure, which requires additional skills in gathering decision information, negotiation and communicating decisions and action;
  • Ability to execute his / her responsibilities with knowledge, accuracy, persistence, resilience and creativity, seeking to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Proven cultural sensitivity, experience with working in a global environment is an asset;
  • Ability to adapt to different people management practices across the world;
  • Excellent English, both written and spoken.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board certification in obstetrics and gynecology.
