Graduate Development Program (January Cohort) Associate Coordinator, Scheduling & Work Coordination

Description About the Graduate Development Program National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well as senior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company. About the Position: Produce the most efficient, cost effective and leveled work resource plan for National Grid based on workforce availability, performance, geographic optimization and schedule flexibility. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Responsible for the scheduling and coordination of short and long-term Opex and Capital construction projects. Manage, balance and coordinate external and internal resources in order to optimize short and long term resource needs and deliver against agreed program of work. Monitor and review work undertaken by project team in order to ensure appropriate use of materials, tools, equipment or resources and adherence to schedules. Identify scheduling and need date risks due to resource constraints, field conditions, material and or equipment issues, and recommend appropriate action. Support divisional reliability activities by making sure all activities are scheduled and progressed. Oversee the bundling and prioritization of contingency and maintenance work in order to capitalize on opportunity for efficiency and maximize fleet utilization. Facilitate weekly construction meetings with stake holders to ensure optimum scheduling and compliance. Promote and implement procedural best practice in resource management in order to ensure all working practice (and where relevant, health and safety standards) are compliant with National Grid policies and regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders in order to share best practice drive consistency in resource planning and ensure timely delivery of projects. Develop and maintain systems, models and procedures in order to support design solutions and enhance resource efficiency and operability. Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiency within resource management. Act as the primary point of contact, providing advice guidance and support to relevant third parties in order to ensure everyone is informed and aware of changes to construction schedules and decisions/actions taken. Develop relationships with key stakeholders in order to fully explain and support the implementation of National Grid policies and processes. Qualifications Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution Concentration in academic studies relevant to the career path Graduated between December 2016 and December 2017 Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program January 8, 2018 Proven leadership experience in at least one of the following: College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics). Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience Knowledge and experience of scheduling, operations, project and program management is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of National Grid's policies and practices and how to apply them effectively. Knowledge and understanding of relevant industry practice and legislation. Proficient in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office, GIS, Ischeduler, STORMS. Working towards project management certification is a plus. Requiring some minimal travel outside the division for emergency assignments.
