Where the Chemistry Happens…

This position supports the daily operation of BASF products in Customer Automotive Assembly Plant by providing on-site technical and application knowledge. The role responds to customer requirements, enforces product quality/performance specification, and supports new product/application development. The Field Technical Service Representative will provide on-site expertise of product performance including color management, defect identification, and corrective action if necessary. S/he will develop and support customer relationships.

The role supports the efforts of a BASF sales/technical team to assure value to the customer for product technical support and problem investigation, analysis, and resolution. The position assures product performance meets or exceeds customer expectations and supports business objectives to be our customer’s supplier of choice.

The incumbent will demonstrate the technical and professional expertise to enhance BASF’s reputation with the customer. S/he will integrate within the business and technical community to bring additional value to ECO coatings customers. The role controls key performance indicators within product service environments to drive problem resolution and product improvement initiatives critical to customer performance expectations.

Field Technical Service Representative: Automotive OEM in Michigan (1705453) – Southfield, MI

Formula for Success: You Will…

· Provide on-site expertise of products, their application, and performance.

· Monitor paint booth operation of automatic spray equipment (e.g., bells, robots).

· Ensure production readiness and coordinate equipment repairs with Maintenance Department.

· Continuously inspect and evaluate painted units for defects (e.g., sags, thin paint, drips, craters) and for proper topcoat application.

· Identify defects, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in a timely fashion.

· Review daily film build data and adjust as necessary.

· Ensure accurate paint application spray parameters and records.

· Continuously interact with Customer Supervision and Management.

· Direct and interact with customer team members. Work closely with customer on quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Support the efforts of other members of the field service team.

· Maintain logbooks and distribute daily performance reports.

· Measure and chart appearance characteristics.

· Promote and maintain safe working conditions/housekeeping standards.

· Participate in the site service team safety program.

· Support customer and internal project schedule compliance.

· Identify and communicate the “Customer Consciousness” to the internal organization.

· Support launch activities.

· Collect, document, and analyze key appearance attributes.

· Initiate and oversee repair and cleaning of application equipment

· Review repair process for inventory control and ensure proper process is followed.

· Assist in the management of measurement, monitoring, and communication of product usage and customer production schedule.

· Identify and support problem resolution activities.

· Review and suggest coatings for new programs at customer sites.

· Maintain customer profiles.

· Participate in color audit reviews.

· Determine improvement efforts that effectively raise our customer’s FTQ performance.

· Continually audit, improve, and correct key product processes designed to deliver/determine/impact final product performance and customer enthusiasm.

· Apply knowledge of quality systems and customer requirements to organizational initiatives.

· Comply with QS9000, ISO: 2002/TS 16949 Standards, BASF Quality Systems, and Quality philosophies of top industry professionals.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree required with at least 2 years of manufacturing experience OR an Associate's degree with at least 3 years of manufacturing experience OR a High School Diploma with at least 4 years of manufacturing experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and oral.

  • High skill level in Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes.

  • Must be able to work flexible shift schedule, including days, afternoons, midnight shifts, and weekends.

  • Excellent on-the-job and on-time track record.

  • Self-starter with solid proven problem-solving skills.

  • Inventory control/SAP knowledge and experience desired.

  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Coatings or Paint background is a plus.

  • Automotive Application equipment experience is a differentiator.

  • E-Coat knowledge and experience desired.

  • Knowledge of color tracking equipment/ Color Care and/or BYK Smart Chart a plus.
