The primary responsibilities of this role, Expert Clinical Data Warehouse Programmer, are to:

 

  • Provide leadership for study transformation programming, data provisioning and use of data views, business areas and data marts;
  • Collaborate with programming groups across CI&A to ensure effective collaboration and strong working teams with a focus on end to end process compliance within the organization;
  • Coach and mentor other programmers on programming best practices and standards implementation within studies and across compound;
  • Establish best practices and lead process efficiency initiatives;
  • Support establishment of programming SOPs, OIs and Best Practice Document impacting all clinical data warehouse programming activities;
  • Support peer review, validation and programming activities as applicable in compliance with respective SOPs, OIs and Best Practice Documents;
  • Understand technical performance/metrics of studies help improve operational performance of individual trials;
  • Lead knowledge sharing infrastructure with programming partners to ensure cross- platform programming solutions;
  • Lead development and validation of globally used standardized functions and procedures for data transformation;
  • Lead collection of requirements from stakeholders and develop solutions to meeting immediate and long-term needs of business customers;
  • Monitor system performance and integrity from user perspective, and report any deficiencies to technical colleagues.  Work with technical colleagues on identification and implementation of corrective and preventative actions, as required;  
  • Create optimized PL/SQL programs to provide solutions for complex business needs;
  • Design processes and workflows in a data warehouse environment and implement automated solutions;
  • Develop standard templates for data warehouse container structures, along with the ability to manage, create and update templates;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters in a natural science, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field with 8+ years of experience in a technical environment, focusing on data warehousing and/or extract, transform, load (ETL) activities;
  • Bachelors in a natural science, Statistics, Computer Science or a related field with 10+ years of experience in a technical environment, focusing on data warehousing and/or ETL activities;
  • Experience considered higher weight over educational background;
  • Experience with a variety of programming languages including but not limited to PL/SQL, JAVA, SAS, C #;
  • 8+ years hands on experience in programming in SQL and PL/SQL, using SQL developer, TOAD or similar program development applications for realization of automations and programming activities;
  • Able to translate business questions into SQL queries to answer those questions appropriately;
  • In-depth knowledge of data warehouse principles and related technologies;
  • Experience in performing ETL tasks and validating results;
  • Experience with exporting data out of data warehousing technology for utilization by other systems;
  • Experience in the set-up, maintenance and promotion of programs to and from standard libraries;
  • Knowledge of clinical data mapping and transformation processes;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work in and lead team initiatives, including priority setting and timeline development;
  • Demonstrated leadership of small teams of programmers delivering a technical implementation in clinical study support;
  • Hands-on experience with the tools and utilities for the management of pharmaceutical sponsor proprietary or industry clinical data standards (i.e. sponsor specific or CDISC);
  • Experience in comprehensive software validation activities using different methodologies (i.e. waterfall, agile etc.), inspections, analyses, and other verification tasks performed at each stage of the software development life cycle.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry;
  • Previous experience in Oracle Life Sciences Data Hub (LSH), including advanced knowledge of core functionality of LSH, and familiarity with LSH best practices;
  • Experience working with clinical data and integrated clinical data;
  • Experience in project management tasks and managing multiple integrations and tools as assigned.
  • Effective interaction and training of teams in the understanding and usage of standards and technology.
