Business Overview

Under the supervision of the VP of Talent / Strategy, the Director of Employee and Organization Development will oversee Employee Development, Workforce Development, Organization Development and Change, Culture and Employee Engagement, Talent Excellence and Learning Technology. The Director of Employee and Organization Development is instrumental to ensuring that BASF has the talent capabilities to deliver and sustain exceptional results in NA.

Purpose of the Job

This leadership role is responsible for developing a cohesive North America capability building strategy for employees, teams and the organization, which includes defining, predicting, designing and deploying solutions to build critical capabilities in support of the business strategy and growth agenda. As a thought leader, he/she will continue to refine our philosophy and guiding principles in this space, and will be charged with bringing outside-in perspective and insights to enhance our approach. As a change agent, he/she will lead a high performing team to own and drive critical projects and initiatives to support our business in the region. Finally, as a key influencer, this individual will need to create and sustain key relationships within a complex work environment, build credibility through demonstrated expertise in the areas of responsibility, and have the vision and tenacity to deliver real change.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, develop, and deliver learning and organizational development solutions that accelerate critical capabilities and skills at the individual, team, and organizational level to support the business strategy and drive performance.
  • Create and communicate a cohesive talent and organizational development strategy that enables a more proactive advisory approach with the business.
  • Transform the function to optimize delivery and business impact.
  • Continue to refine and communicate the principles and meaning of employee development at BASF – for leaders, managers, specialists and employees
  • Provide oversight of the overall strategic vision, philosophy and execution for learning excellence and organization development solutions
  • Deliver comprehensive and target set of learning and training programs and practices
  • Utilize internal and external network to identify innovative solutions and the best means for integrating those solutions into the organization in a clear, effective manner.
  • Manage and lead a large professional team by role modeling the principles of strong performance management, career development, and team alignment.
  • Manage the technical training needs for a large, dispersed manufacturing organization.
  • Engage with key stakeholders across the organization to influence and gain buy-in on the vision for capability development
  • Ensure alignment of programs and initiatives developed across the talent spectrum, including employee and team development, organization development and effectiveness, employee engagement, change management and cultural change and talent branding
  • Track and manage the overall efficiency and effectiveness of talent and capability building solutions
  • Design and develop the processes, frameworks and tools to build high performing teams, increase organizational capability, enable change, and drive engagement for BASF employees in North America.
  • Develop the philosophies for organizational effectiveness solutions needed to meet short and long term business goals
  • Develop the vision for employee engagement and culture initiatives across the region

Knowledge and Experience

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors of Arts or Science in Business or related fields; Advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including L&D, OD, and/or HR Generalist required.
  • Developed, implemented and evaluated capability building initiatives in a large, complex work environment (multiple business units and geographies with global considerations)
  • Led large-scale change initiatives within a complex business environment with multiple key stakeholders
  • Integrated learning, leadership, and organizational development into the broader talent management framework (i.e. succession planning, career development)
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large team and developing successors
