The primary responsibilities of this role, Director Data Science, are to:

 

  • Define predictive analytics capabilities, tools and approaches to support the BCH divisional strategy;
  • Propose how to best build predictive analytics capabilities within the business unit, including recommended methods and tools;
  • Partner with other senior leaders to build a culture of data-driven decision making across the organization;
  • Identify and build relationships with potential external consulting firms/vendors or parties who may assist in the building of the predictive analytics capability;
  • Serve as a sparring partner for senior leaders to inform usage of predictive methods/tools for enhancing business units’ needs;
  • Build diagnostic and predictive models using first and third party data, tests model results and verifies model performance;
  • Build frameworks and quality control mechanisms to ensure highest levels of data integrity;
  • Engage with Business unit leaders (GM, VP, Director) to thoroughly understand the key strategic questions that can materially improve business performance;
  • Proactively identify potential business problems that can be addressed via new advanced predictive analytics approaches;
  • Partner with Advanced Analytics Insights team to identify the most appropriate analytical tools to address strategic questions;
  • Pressure tests recommendations for credibility and action ability;
  • Follow through with leaders to understand outcomes;
  • Objectively assess outcomes and builds real world learnings into future inquiries.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with at least 10 years of experience in life sciences, healthcare, consumer packaged goods, financial services, media, and/or digital;
  • Expertise in one or more core analytics methods including predictive modeling, machine learning, unstructured data analytics, simulation and optimization techniques;
  • Direct user experience in one or more data mining tools such as SAS, R, Matlab or SPSS;
  • Demonstrated track record in influencing without authority;
  • Passion for problem solving through data analytics, in particular ability to apply in a decision making context;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to speak clearly and concisely in front of large groups;
  • Fosters respect for diversity while resolving conflict collaboratively;
  • Ability to:
    • Create an environment which encourages innovation and risk-taking;
    • Build confidence and trust in others;
    • Demonstrate consistency between promises and actions.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • PhD highly preferred in a relevant Data Science field;
  • Background in predictive analytics, marketing analytics (marketing mix modeling, trade promotion analytics, sales forecasting, digital analytics, pricing analytics), big data, management consulting, and/or finance.
