Deputy Director, Internal and Executive Communications, Pharmaceuticals

The primary responsibilities of this role, Deputy Director, Internal and Executive Communications, Pharmaceuticals, are to: 


  • Develop and implement a comprehensive, internal communications plan for the U.S. Pharmaceuticals President to educate and engage employees in support of the division strategy and business plan;
  • Prepare internal leadership positioning and messages for the Pharmaceuticals President, including presentations, talking points, speeches and executive remarks for events such as town hall meetings, national sales meetings, and other internal events;
  • Develop programming and outreach that fosters employee connectedness, leveraging both traditional communication channels and interactive experiences (e.g., employee meetings, town hall events, etc.); explore new channels to drive engagement to field teams;
  • In partnership with the U.S. Media and Pharmaceuticals product communications teams, take a lead role in the coordination of an ongoing executive visibility program for the Pharmaceuticals President and other senior pharmaceutical executives, including plans and preparations for speaking engagements, related corporate sponsorships, media interviews and other engagements;
  • Partner with the U.S. Internal Communications team to ensure that the Pharmaceutical Division is actively represented and profiled country-wide; prepare and publish content for US intranet and related employee news channels such as news features, profiles, event summaries, etc.;
  • Define key metrics to measure, monitor and report progress against strategy and ensure continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree;
  • Twelve plus years’ experience in leading and implementing successful strategic internal communications programs and operations, preferably within a pharmaceutical company or health care system;
  • Demonstrated success in developing, managing and delivering best-in-class communication strategies and programs in a large, complex global organization;
  • Experience supporting senior executives and working with leadership teams to develop and implement strategic leadership communications programs;
  • Success in developing and/or managing data analysis and reporting for internal communications, programs, campaigns, etc.;
  • Ability to produce clear, compelling, motivating content and effectively and succinctly communicate complex concepts in a variety of formats, including key messages, Q&A, executive speeches, collateral materials, video scripts and PowerPoint presentations;
  • Superior interpersonal communication, teamwork, collaboration, supervisory and client service skills;
  • Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships across a variety of constituencies;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Ability to manage complex and sensitive communications while maintaining strict confidentiality;
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects with a sense of urgency;
  • Domestic and international travel;

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Degree in Communications, Journalism or Business Administration;
  • Master’s degree.
