Construction Manager, Electric Substation

Description About the Position: The focus of the individual will befor Construction activities that are needed for a Utility Company in theSubstation arena. Activities to include but notlimited to writing outage plans for specific steps for replacement orinstallation of new or old Substation equipment, sequencing of constructionwork that fits the specific project needs. Work alongside of Engineering tosupport the design of a project. National Grid is looking for an individualthat can be a Team player and communicator. Has experience with Greenfieldsites and also Brownfield (existing) sites. You will be responsible foroverseeing multiple projects at once. Communicate to Project Team Leaders andDepartment leaders about project details. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): · Develop a detailed construction schedule that involves plannedoutages, construction phases, construction steps. · Review of project construction drawings and provide details or correctionsas they apply from engineering design standards and EOP’s. · Work in partnership with project managers, materials management,control centers, project estimators, and resource planners, · Drive greater efficiencies for National Grid and ensure compliancewith Safety, Health, and Environmental regulatory standards and permitting. · Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways todo things better in order to drive greater efficiencies within assigned area. · Develop work plans that are aligned with safety standards,policies and processes in order to ensure that the execution of the work plans. · Promote a safe working environment and minimize risk for allstaff. Collaborate with other groups to ensure system reliability,safety, and efficiency is demonstrated during large scale projects. · Review health and safety plans for each specific project. · Work with Construction groups for Project Hazard Assessment (PHA)for high hazard work practices. · Partner with legal and real estate groups for any challenges thatare presented in project execution along rights of ways and company ownedproperty where new or existing facilities could be developed. · Participate in Safety Leadership Day process, and other activitiesas requested. • Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in an engineering or business disciplines and/or significant relevant project management, engineering and construction experience in utility construction and operations. 5+ years of experience with demonstrated ability to manage / integrate the project related work and ability to provide direction, the appropriate structure and effective resourcing to enable the team to deliver high performance in the Substation Construction arena. In-depth knowledge and operational experience in the utility business and demonstrates an understanding of the issues impacting the energy industry sector. Strong demonstrated skills in the following areas: · Written and oral communications, including developing andexecuting communications through various mediums including verbalpresentations, emails, PowerPoint, conference calls, and other appropriatemethods · Organization and management of multiple tasks / priorities todeliver high results · Foster a collaborative environment focused on achieving outcomes · Build and design appropriate solutions / approaches based oncustomer needs to result in an optimal solution · Experience of managing relationships and project teams with PMCCemployees, National Grid stakeholders, contractors and members of the public. · Displays commitment to safe and productive work environmentthrough consistent actions, beliefs and personal conduct.
