Clinical Data Management Specialist

Altria Client Services' role is to help Altria Group and its operating companies responsibly meet their business goals by providing the high quality services they require in a financially disciplined way. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Clinical Data Management Specialist to join our Clinical Operations department in Richmond, VA.

The successful candidate will manage data generated from clinical studies and provide basic SAS programming for conducting post-hoc analyses.

Specific accountabilities include:
  • Reviewing of clinical research documents (eg. Study Protocols, tables, listings, figures and clinical study reports) from a data management perspective.
  • Overseeing CRO data management activities including EDC database (DB) specification process.
  • Reviewing CRO data management deliveries including data management plan (DMP), case report forms (CRFs) or EDC screen design, CRF completion guideline and edit check plan.
  • Ensuring clinical data is in quality to lock, reconciling data transfers from CROs, archiving study data and related documents, managing and maintaining internal archivals, and using Excel to present data.
  • Creating SAS datasets for statistical analysis, conducting SAS programming for data processing and reporting (e.g. data plots, bar charts, tables, listings).
  • Conducting SAS programming for descriptive statistics (e.g. mean, SD, frequency count). Using basic SAS procedures for exploratory analysis.


  • Specific Skills

    Qualifications include:
  • Master's degree in a science field with at least 3 years of professional experiences or Bachelor's degree in a science field with 5 years of professional experiences .
  • 3+ years of experience with clinical data management with basic understanding of SAS programming
  • Knowledge and experience with at least one clinical databases such as Medidata, Oracle Clinical or eClinical OS.
  • Knowledge in life sciences, computer sciences and statistics / mathematics.
  • Knowledge of medical and clinical terminology and adverse event coding such as MedDRA.
  • Knowledge and experience with SAS Base and SAS/Graph; (SAS Macro and/or SAS/Stat knowledge and experience is a plus).
