Canola Production Research Associate - Temporary Assignment

This position involves supporting all scientific and technical aspects of Canola Production Research including, but not limited to planting, rogueing, harvesting, sampling, operating lab and small field equipment, data collection (field notes, measurements, observations, counts, photos, etc.), computer data entry and other miscellaneous lab, warehouse and field functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Take a proactive approach to ensure all aspects of the position are carried out in adherence to the Monsanto safety standards. Recommend and assist in implementing enhancements to safety programs

  • Independently manage the entire Parent Test Program

  • Prepare growing instructions, assess cost of goods and provide the hybrid producibility information for the canola advancement team

  • Independently perform various production research studies and independently manage testing locations

  • Perform field and lab operations for Parent Test trials and Production Research experiments

  • Prepare protocols, reports, data templates, ISO procedures and instruction, regulatory papers, JSA etc.

  • Ensure that ISO procedures and standards and Monsanto Quality Policy are followed

  • Assist in revision of procedures to achieve continuous improvement

  • Manage summer students and external contract staff




Required Skills/Experience:

  • M. Sci. in Agriculture or related field of study
  • Experience in an engineering, laboratory, or field research environment
  • Working knowledge of field operations, data collection, and management
  • Presentation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficient with spreadsheet, database, word processing, and related computer software
  • Ability to travel internationally (U.S.A and Canada)
  • Valid driver's license

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Working knowledge of canola hybrid seed production
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Basic knowledge of statistical methods

  • Prior work experience in a data oriented position

  • Understanding of basic engineering and ability to construct simple experimental prototypes
