Job Description

Wells Fargo’s Wholesale Group Risk organization is part of the second line of defense and works closely with each Wholesale Banking line of business to ensure strong and effective risk management and compliance programs are in place to manage our risks, meet regulatory requirements, and protect customer information.

The Wholesale Financial Crimes Risk and Compliance (WFCRC) group sits within Wholesale Group Risk and its mission is to provide an objective view of the state of compliance operational risk across Wholesale Banking as well as to support and ensure the effective and efficient execution of strong compliance and risk management programs in every Wholesale line of business. We work closely with the risk and compliance professionals in each Wholesale line of business and throughout Wells Fargo to ensure that Wholesale lines of business manage risks and meet regulatory requirements with respect to our customers, our company, and our communities.

Within WFCRC is the Strategic Controls & Analytics team (WFCRC SCA) that is responsible for oversight of all data movement related to all the operational risk functions within the Wholesale division. This role will be responsible for data analytics / governance process checks within Wholesale Financial Crimes Risk and Compliance.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with creating/managing a process to prioritize data gaps, issues, etc. and create projects to solve for them
  • Ability to partner with business groups, project management teams, technical teams, and other key individuals associated with filling ‘data gaps’ and/or ‘data issues’
  • Write/code complex/recursive SQL (Oracle, SQL, Teradata) and use advanced MS Excel capabilities to identify customer populations and key data elements in support of data enrichment and document remediation efforts in a highly complex environment
  • Review and verify requirements and design specifications for validity in overall product design with an emphasis towards ensuring check points are in place for governance
  • Performs moderately complex to complex test data conditioning, with an emphasis on negative testing – verifying that project processes are functioning as expected
  • Identifying data sources and data gaps, perform data compares by writing / coding SQL (Oracle, SQL, Teradata), importing temporary datasets, and using advanced MS Excel capabilities
  • Perform analytics required to support various projects or information requests
  • Define and build data repositories to support long-term analytics needs and centralize commonly referenced data, leveraging prior database development background (in SQL, Oracle, or Teradata)
  • Identify requirement for and work with teams to build reports to support ongoing information needs relative to WFCRC processes and controls
  • Analyzing data and creating summaries in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Visio or PowerPoint for management review and communication

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: reporting, analytics, or modeling; or a Masters degree or higher in a quantitative field such as applied math, statistics, engineering, physics, accounting, finance, economics, econometrics, computer sciences, or business/social and behavioral sciences with a quantitative emphasis and 5+ years of experience in one or a combination of the following: reporting, analytics, or modeling

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A Master's degree or higher
  • 10+ years of SQL experience
  • 5+ years of project management methodology experience
  • Oracle experience
  • Vendor management experience
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and creative problem solving techniques
  • Experience capturing and documenting complex business and functional requirements which may include workflows, process maps, or business processes
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, achieve goals, and work under pressure in a dynamic and complex environment
  • Experience designing and optimizing complex SQL queries involving table joins and correlated sub-queries on large scale data tables
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) skills
  • Advanced Microsoft Visio skills
  • Business intelligence experience
  • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) experience
  • Teradata experience

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as data analyst in Wholesale or Wholesale line of business
  • Skilled in writing requirements, functional designs, and diagraming key concepts to support data work
  • Experience working with multiple database solutions and retrieving and consolidating data from disparate information sources
  • Experience in Wholesale CDD Customer systems such as WCIS, Cornerstone, CRMS
  • Experience building and retaining documentation to track analysis results and logic
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, actively participate in projects/discussions, work through problems and help reach decisions
  • Experience as a financial crimes data analyst
