Analyst/Senior Analyst, US Strategy

Description About the Position: The Analyst / Senior Analyst, US Strategy will work closely with the US leadership team to facilitate, lead and coordinate the development of strategy positions for the US business, and to provide strategic support services to US business units requiring assistance. In addition, this role will be responsible for working closely with the UK based Group & UK/EU Strategy team to collaborate on developing corporate strategy and support global strategic projects. The successful candidate will become a trusted partner to the business and their market/business insights and thought leadership in strategy will be welcome and sought after. The US Strategy team has a shared resource pool, so reporting relationships may be altered based on project and professional development needs. Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to): Participate in the development and review of US business strategy and annual strategic agenda to provide the US leadership team with appropriate context for medium and long term business decision-making. Work with key US business stakeholders to develop and gain alignment on positions in support of National Grid’s US regulatory and growth strategy. Provide strategic and analytic assistance in projects to support the success of US business units, including development of project objectives and workplans, management of project timelines, oversight of other staff members in completing project work, and development of project deliverables. Support business development and M&A work streams by providing relevant market/company insights and preliminary financial analysis for potential growth options. Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills required, understanding of corporate finance, strategic and business planning desired. Effective communication and influencing skills are necessary for success in this role. Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required: Ability to appropriately tailor communication styles (both verbal and written) to convey complex/ambiguous concepts to a wide range of audiences. Ability to influence decision-making is critical to bringing complex issues to successful conclusion. Comfortable working in a matrix organization and effectively engaging with multiple stakeholders at various levels in the organization. Significant (2-7 years) experience in strategy development and formulation in large/complex environments, either in a consulting organization or a corporate environment, is highly desirable. Experience and understanding of the US energy (electricity and natural gas) sector, regulatory/technology/business issues impacting the industry and future trends is highly desirable. Experience operating in an environment with significant, critical and regulatory/government scrutiny is preferred. Strong team player – the US Strategy team is a small, specialized team that shares resources across projects. Ability to build relationships within all levels of the organization. Excellent communications (written, verbal, presentation) skills and ability to influence in a positive/supportive manner. Collaborative consultative style. Inherent sense of balance between strategic thinking and pragmatic business decision making. Drive for continuous development, both personally and as a key member of the US Strategy team. Undergraduate degree required, graduate degree strongly preferred.
