Alliance Director Procurement, Contract Research Organization

The primary responsibilities of this role, Alliance Director Procurement CRO, are to: 

 

  • Continuously develop the partnership in terms of efficiency and effectiveness in close collaboration with the Alliance Manager Development CRO and the Strategic CRO Partner(s); Understand and safeguard the value drivers of both partners;
  • Ensure high transparency and alignment of Bayer interests with Strategic CRO Partner(s) performance in terms of results, delivery in time, budget and high quality;
  • Act as central point of contact for all commercially related topics to enable more efficient strategic decision making, aligned governance, issue management and best-in-class operations;
  • Demonstrate excellent collaboration and alignment with the Alliance Manager DEV CRO, with the main focus on commercial and performance measurement and relationship topics;
  • Effectively collaborate with all internal stakeholders/functions and the Strategic Partner CRO to maximize the value of the partnership;
  • Manage the relationship with the Strategic Partner(s) on all relevant levels (Executive Committee / Operational Committee / Functions) and build a trustful relationship with the Strategic Partner;
  • Establish and maintain alignment internally to ensure speaking with ‘one voice’;
  • Drive increased productivity and quality, target achievement by the CRO, and reduce development timelines and costs;
  • Establish metrics and track partnership objectives and commitments to completion;
  • Analyze KPIs to maintain study performance in alignment with the Bayer standards and monitor effort of resource allocations for all outsourced activities;
  • Engage with the Strategic CRO Partner(s) proactively to find creative and innovative solutions;
  • Drive jointly continuous improvement based on lessons learnt and external benchmarking;
  • Identify early potential area of conflict that may adversely impact the Strategic Partner and/or the alliance success and jointly solve the issues in a constructive and pragmatic manner;
  • Recognize and manage cultural and operational differences between the partners;
  • Maintain regular exchange of experience with the Alliance Managers in Business Development;
  • Apply state-of-the-art Supplier Management with the assigned Strategic Partner(s);
  • Steer and align supplier stakeholder landscape with multiple critical internal business stakeholders to build uniform understanding;
  • Develop a consistent understanding of supplier’s role and performance (one consistent message to the supplier);
  • Act responsible for developing a Supplier Strategy that is in-line with existing Sourcing strategies and for achievement of strategic objectives, e.g. taps into the supplier’s innovation potential and resources by setting up joint innovation initiatives, analyzing supplier cost structures and drivers and continuous improvement and process optimization with the suppliers.

Required Qualifications:

  • University Degree (PhD or Master) in Business Management, Science or an equivalent field;
  • Minimum of 7 years relevant professional business experience;
  • Highly experienced Senior Manager with extensive professional knowledge and well developed communication skills;
  • Proven excellent stakeholder engagement skills combined with strong collaboration, influencing and communication competencies;
  • Good knowledge in Procurement and Procurement processes and methodologies (especially Supplier Management);
  • Good understanding of the drug development principles, the drug development and commercialization processes with experience in the Pharmaceutical industry as well as broad managerial experience in a regional/global environment;
  • Strategic thinker and proven high leadership, motivational and interpersonal skills as well as a creative and result oriented mind-set;
  • Change Management and Project Management skills;
  • Financial Acumen, Analytical decision making;
  • Strong communication skills to work with all involved parties including senior management;
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi-cultural, global and matrix organization;
  • Proven negotiation skills and an excellent business acumen;
  • Position holder must embrace innovation and change and be able to work in a changing environment;
  • Executes his/her responsibilities with knowledge, accuracy, persistence, resilience and creativity seeking to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
