2018 Sophomore Summer Internship Program

Wells Fargo is committed to developing the leaders of tomorrow, and, as part of that commitment, we are proud to offer the Sophomore Summer Internship Program.  This program provides a select group of highly talented undergraduate sophomores an opportunity for exposure to a career in the financial services industry, to experience our corporate culture, and to learn how Wells Fargo delivers financial services to mid-sized, corporate, and other large scale companies.

Program Overview

As part of this unique program, Sophomore Summer Internship Program participants will have the opportunity to:

•Work in a Wells Fargo office in a major city in the U.S.

•Gain early exposure to the business world

•Access to a mentor who will help you determine your strengths and plan your career

•Access to senior leaders who can provide support and guidance throughout the summer

•Networking and firm-wide events that will help ensure that you are exposed to all the areas within Wells Fargo and understand the structure of a large financial services firm

•Opportunity to complete two summer internships (summers before junior and senior years)

•Hands-on exploration of potential career path

•Opportunities to develop professional network and practice networking skills

•Develop an understanding of how academic and professional careers relate

•Participate in a number of social activities throughout the summer to help you get to know our corporate culture, interact with other summer interns, as well as participate in our team member networks



Sophomore Summer Program participants will be placed into one of the following businesses/functions based on candidate preference and business need.  The program is non-rotational and exact day-to-day roles and responsibilities may vary based on the business and program placement.


Corporate and Commercial Lending Businesses:

Program participants receive training and development focused on credit lending and underwriting skills. Analysts gain on-the-job experience as part of a business group dedicated to corporate and commercial lending, and also take part in special training and development opportunities aimed at preparing them for a career in corporate and commercial credit.

Chief Administrative Office:

Program participants acquire a wide range of practical and technical job skills, further develop leadership and communication skills, and develop a broad professional network within the company. They will become familiar with the organization and gain practical work experience within the fields of Benefits, Government & Community Relations, Human Resources, Marketing, and Communications.

 Enterprise Finance:

Program participants gain on-the job-experience in accounting and finance. They work alongside team members to identify areas of financial risk and mitigate efforts appropriately. Rotation opportunities may be in the following lines of business: Audit, Controller, Finance, and Treasury.

Wealth and Investment Management:

Program participants gain experience in Wealth & Investment Management (WIM), a division of Wells Fargo that provides a full range of personalized wealth management, investment and retirement products and services to clients across U.S. They gain real-world experience in the fields of investment management, financial analytics, project management, consulting, and more while you broaden your network and expand your understanding of the financial services industry.


Next Steps

At the end of the summer, successful sophomore interns may receive an offer to join us as a Summer Intern for the following summer between their junior and senior years.

Ideal participants for the Sophomore Summer Program should possess the following attributes:

  • Open to all interested sophomores currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in any major with an anticipated graudation date of December 2019 or May/June 2020
  • Strong commitment to excellence and personal and professional growth
  • Outstanding academic performance and an aptitude for analytics
  • Self-starter with proven leadership skills in a work setting and/or extracurricular activities
  • Resourceful, intellectually curious, empathetic, poised, motivated and mature
  • Enjoys working in teams

Team members support our focus on building strong customer relationships balanced with a strong risk mitigating and compliance-driven culture which firmly establishes those disciplines as critical to the success of our customers and company. They are accountable for execution of all applicable risk programs (Credit, Market, Financial Crimes, Operational, Regulatory Compliance), which includes effectively following and adhering to applicable Wells Fargo policies and procedures, appropriately fulfilling risk and compliance obligations, timely and effective escalation and remediation of issues, and making sound risk decisions. There is emphasis on proactive monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation, as well as making sound risk decisions commensurate with the business unit’s risk appetite and all risk and compliance program requirements.
